Christmas in July parties are becoming more popular as people find more reasons to party. And why not celebrate halfway through the year? But if you do choose to party, why not go one step further and turn the party into an ugly sweater party? Ugly sweaters are usually the Christmas jumpers that your grandma or mother buy you at Christmas… if you live in the northern hemisphere and celebrate Christmas during winter. Here in Australia, those ugly sweaters can be brought out and worn in winter. And if you don’t have one, chances are you will be able to order one on sale online from overseas!

When thinking of decorating, of course red, green and white are the colours to base the décor on, but think patterns like plaid and snowflakes and tacky prints that scream Christmas.

For a modern take on the theme, using bunting to spell out Ugly Sweater. Wrap presents in patterned paper and set as different levels to height the food table experience.

Decorate water bottles with their own labels ‘Tis the season to be Tacky’. Very cute and easy to make.

Decorate gingerbread men with their own tacky sweaters. If kids are at the party, why not get them to decorate their own gingerbread man?

To complete the party with a cake, use a baking dish and decorate the top in the shape of a sweater using frosting.
